TravelCenters of America has named Brian Zellner chief people officer, effective Sept. 1, according to a TA spokesperson.

In this role, Zellner will develop the company’s people agenda, overseeing all aspects of the team member experience at TA, including the people-related details of the integration with bp.

Prior to his new role, Zellner worked for more than ten years at bp, which recently acquired Westlake, Ohio-based TA for $1.3 billion. He held positions including human resources advisor, labor relations manager, U.S. recruiting manager, head of human resources, senior director of human resources, chief of staff to executive vice president of people and culture and, most recently, vice president of leadership and culture.

This isn’t the first time that the executive teams at both TravelCenters of America and bp have seen movement since the acquisition. Also on Sept. 1, Debi Boffa was named CEO of TA. Boffa also comes from bp, with more than 25 years at the company. She succeeds Jonathan Pertchik, who has held the CEO position since 2019.

  • bp is No. 7 and TravelCenters of America is No. 29 on CSP’s 2023 Top 202 ranking of U.S. convenience-store chains by company-owned store count.

TA, a publicly traded, full-service travel center network, has 281 locations in 44 states and Canada, principally under the TA, Petro Stopping Centers and TA Express brands. Offerings include diesel and gasoline fuel, truck maintenance and repair, full-service and quick-service restaurants, travel stores, car and truck parking and other services. The company operates more than 600 full-service and quick-service restaurants and nine proprietary brands.
