New Convenience-Store Roundup for November 2023
By Greg Lindenberg on Dec. 13, 2023This edition of CSP’s New Convenience-Store Roundup features new-to-industry (NTI) c-store openings, as well as closings, that took place in November 2023.
New York and Texas had the most new stores for the month, with five locations opening in the Empire State and four in the Lone Star State.
The unscientifically gathered roundup—gleaned from company announcements, websites, email, social media and newspapers around the country, among other sources—is by no means complete, but it serves as a monthly competitive snapshot of newly opened or closed U.S. c-stores, gas stations, truckstops and travel centers.

Many of the stores listed here are owned by independent operators, while others belong to major chains. Some are part of CSP’s Top 202 ranking of c-store chains by size. Some of the owners and operators are new entrepreneurs, and some are industry veterans.
Unless otherwise noted, these NTI locations offer the food, snacks, beverages, tobacco, merchandise, services and amenities found in most c-stores. Most offer fuel. ...
Florida
Baseline Market, a new c-store in Ocala, Florida, on Nov. 11. The store features locally sourced goods and a beer cave. Anthony Esteves and Austin Simpkins, who between them have more than 25 years of grocery experience with Publix and Winn-Dixie, own and operate the store. “We’ve done this our whole lives and we decided we wanted to do it on our own,” said Simpkins. “There’s nothing here. We want to service this area and not have people drive five miles.”
Wawa opened new c-stores in Titusville, Florida, on Nov. 16 and Jacksonville, Florida, on Nov. 30.

Georgia
Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores opened a new location in West Point, Georgia, off Interstate 85 at Exit 2, on Nov. 9. The site has seven diesel bays, 79 truck parking spaces, 82 car parking spaces and six RV parking spaces with four RV hookups. It also has a Speedco facility and CAT scale. The more than 17,000-square-foot store features Godfather's Pizza and Hardy’s restaurants. It has nine showers, as well as laundry facilities.

Illinois
bp’s Thorntons opened a new c-store in New Lenox, Illinois, on Nov. 10. The 1.61-acre site offers 16 automobile fueling positions, and the 4,400-square-foot store features self-checkout; LED lighting; freshly made burritos and sandwiches prepared throughout the day in the store's onsite kitchen; and a variety of beverages, including bean-to-cup coffee and fountain beverages with nugget ice.

Iowa
Louisiana
Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores opened a new location in Shreveport, Louisiana, off Interstate 49 at Exit 215, on Nov. 2. The site has seven diesel bays, 106 truck parking spaces, 66 car parking spaces and three RV parking spaces. It also has a CAT scale. The more than 14,000-square-foot store features a Carl’s Jr. restaurant. It has seven showers, as well as laundry facilities.
TravelCenters of America, part of the bp family of brands, opened a new, franchised TA Express location in Minden, Louisiana, at on I-20, Exit 52. The site has five diesel fueling positions with diesel exhaust fluid (DEF), eight Sunoco gasoline fueling lanes, 50 truck parking spaces with five Reserve-It parking spaces, 45 car parking spaces and RV parking available. The store features Charleys Philly Steak and Sbarro dining options, three showers including an ADA-compliant shower, laundry facilities and an ATM. The location also has a casino.

Kwik Trip opened a new c-store in Kingsford, Michigan, in the Upper Peninsula, on Nov. 2.

Missouri
Love’s Travel Stops & Country Stores opened a new location in Herculaneum, Missouri, off Interstate 55 at Exit 178, on Nov. 2. The site has eight diesel bays, 80 truck parking spaces, 55 car parking spaces and five RV parking spaces. It also has a CAT scale. The more than 13,500-square-foot store features an Arby’s restaurant. It has seven showers, as well as laundry facilities.
University Convenience Store opened in November in Springfield, Missouri, near Missouri State University. The family-run store features an entire aisle of Indian food catering to international students.

New Jersey
Wawa opened a new c-store in in Linden, New Jersey, on Nov. 2. It closed a c-store in Pine Hill, New Jersey, on Nov. 16 and opened a new c-store in Sicklerville, New Jersey, on Nov. 16. The chain also opened a new c-store in Sewell, New Jersey, on Nov. 30.

Global Partners opened a new Alltown Fresh c-store in Fort Edward, New York, on Nov. 2.
Stewart’s Shops opened new c-stores in Middletown, New York, on Nov. 10, Oneonta, New York, on Nov. 17 and Frankfort, New York, on Nov. 28. The 4,000-square-foot Frankfort store will open an expanded fuel island in January 2024.
Byrne Dairy & Deli opened a new c-store in East Rochester, New York, on Nov. 15. It includes a full deli, bakery, ice cream stand and fuel station.

A new On the Run c-store opened in Bismarck, North Dakota. Construction is currently underway to add a car wash.

BW Gas & Convenience Holdings opened a new Allsup’s c-store in Madill, Oklahoma, on Nov. 12.
Casey’s General Stores opened a new c-store in Tecumseh, Oklahoma, on Nov. 17.

Pennsylvania
Wawa closed a c-store in Hatboro, Pennsylvania on Nov. 5. The chain opened a new, 5,585-square-foot c-store also in Hatboro, also on Nov. 5.

South Carolina
Parker’s opened a new Parker’s Kitchen in Georgetown, South Carolina, on Nov. 27. The store has signature Parker’s Kitchen Lowcountry-inspired architecture with a modern, contemporary glass-front façade, lime-washed brick, bracketry and designer lighting. The retail footprint offers indoor dining, It features grab-and-go options as well as a hot bar serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily and electronic kiosk ordering. A variety of Parker’s Kitchen items are prepared fresh on-site and are available seven days a week. The entire menu is handcrafted on-site from the freshest ingredients by Parker’s Kitchen chefs. The store offers six fueling positions with unleaded, premium unleaded, ethanol-free marine and high-flow diesel as well as three high-flow diesel fueling positions for trucks.
The Spinx Co. opened a new c-store in Greenville, South Carolina, near Donaldson Center Airport on Nov. 30.

Casey’s General Stores opened two new c-stores in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Nov. 9 and Nov. 16.
Kwik Trip opened a new c-store in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Nov. 16.

Texas
A Checkout gas station, convenience and food store opened in Tomball, Texas, on Nov. 4. It offers snacks, beverages and packaged food, as well as ready-to-eat meals such as tacos, hotdogs and breakfast items.
Toot'n Totum opened a new c-store and Mitch’s BBQ in Lubbock, Texas, in mid-November.
QuikTrip opened a new c-store in Sherman, Texas, on Nov. 16.
Enex’s Road Ranger opened a new location in Teague, Texas, in late November.

Virginia
Royal Farms opened a new c-store in Suffolk, Virginia, on Nov. 20, featuring 12 fuel pumps. It also opened a new c-store and car wash in Abingdon, Virginia, on Nov. 30, featuring 16 fuel pumps including an ethanol-free pump.

Kwik Trip opened a new c-store in Roberts, Wisconsin, on Nov. 24.
