ampm, a bp brand based in La Palma, California, presented a community event at which Golden State Warriors rookies Brandin Podziemski and Trayce Jackson-Davis joined children for a cookie decorating experience at the Warriors Shop in Thrive City, followed by a shopping spree, as part of the convenience-store chain’s partnership with the NBA team.

  • BP America Inc./Thorntons is No. 7 on CSP’s 2023 Top 202 ranking of U.S. convenience-store chains by store count.

The event, held in December, brought together kids from across the bay area to decorate cookies with the first year Warrior players as part of the Warriors season of giving, Lisa Blalock, vice president of convenience Americas at bp, told CSP. The partnership began two years ago.

“They have strong connections with local organizations. We knew that they would be a great partner to collaborate within the community initiatives.”

The ampm brand provided the cookies for the event, the snack packer boxes for the children to store their cookie creations and a hot chocolate station for the kids and parents to enjoy, Blalock said.

“It was a great tie-in to our ampm game promotion. For each Golden State Warrior basketball game, if the Warriors win—and they had a very successful season last year—all the ampm app users give a free pack of cookies.”

ampm looks not only at sponsorship opportunities to give back to the community, but also at bringing jobs as well as connecting and investing in offers as it continues to navigate through the U.S., Blalock said.

“Our store operators and franchisees are encouraged to give back to the communities they serve, and they participate in local programs as well. As well as initiatives on their own, like COVID response, supporting their communities through natural disaster impacts, providing water to community demonstrators and so on. In addition to that, ampm has donated to charities such as No Kid Hungry as well as the Dodgers Foundation.

Chicago-based bp owns convenience-store brands ampm and Thorntons. In May, it completed its acquisition of TravelCenters of America, Westlake, Ohio. Bpx, bp’s U.S. onshore oil and gas business, began operating as a standalone entity in 2015.
