Three Longtime Circle K Execs to Lead Pantry Integration

Davis fills president’s shoes for time being

LAVAL, Quebec -- As senior vice president of operations at Alimentation Couche-Tard, Darrell Davis will lead the integration of The Pantry’s Kangaroo Express convenience-store chain into the ACT system, working with two other longtime Circle K executives, CSP Daily News has learned.

Since the March 16 closing of ACT’s acquisition of The Pantry—the same day the retailer announced the layoff of 250 employees—documents filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission have been signed by Darrell Davis, listing him as president of The Pantry. However, a source close to the deal said the title is merely to meet bylaw requirements.

Most previous Pantry executives, including president and CEO Dennis Hatchell, left the company on March 16, as previously reported in CSP Daily News. Many of them cashed in company stock in the days and weeks before as part of their “golden parachute” exits from the company. All members of The Pantry’s Board of Directors also “voluntarily resigned,” in accordance with the original merger agreement.

At that time, Davis, Kathy Cunnington, vice president, shared services North America and treasurer and a Circle K employee since 2003, and Geoffrey Haxel, also a senior vice president of operations, became the directors of the company.

Davis was appointed senior vice president of operations at Couche-Tard in May 2012. Previously, he was vice president operations for ACT’s Florida division since March 2011 and before that, vice president of operations for the U.S. Midwest division since December 2005.

Haxel was appointed senior vice president operations in January 2011. He was formerly vice president operations, U.S. Arizona Region since December 2003. He served in a variety of operations and marketing positions since joining Circle K in 1988.
