As reported in a Morgan Keegan/CSP Daily News Flash yesterday, Chiovera is leaving his position as the senior fresh foods director at Dallas-based 7-Eleven Inc. to take on a similar rolewith Laval, Quebec-based Couche-Tard.Sources told CSP Daily News that Chiovera's hiring is [image-nocss] part of a larger executive reorganization at Couche-Tard that includes several retirements and promotions. Couche-Tard did not respond to a request for comments about the personnel changes.President and CEO Alain Bouchard said in July 2010 that Couche-Tard was testing two assembly and delivery methods in separate divisions of the company while also seeking to hire a new foodservice manager. "We have a mandate out there to hire a new senior manager for this position, although we haven't found the person we are looking for," Bouchard said at the time. Chiovera has worked in convenience store foodservice since 1996.
He joined 7-Eleven in February 2008 as fresh foods senior director as part of the company's strategy to enhance a dimension of an important and growing part of the convenience retailer's business. His category responsibilities included fresh sandwiches, cold snacks, salads and entrees, along with the operations of 7-Eleven's 14 commissaries to align with strategic category direction. Before that, his focus was in business system support with supervisory responsibilities for procurement, quality assurance and culinary development.
Before his position at 7-Eleven, Chiovera spent the greater part of eight years with ExxonMobil On the Run. Most recently, he served as the company's U.S. concept development manager after having held a number of marketing and operations positions there. Previously, he spent four years at Sheetz as director of product and concept development and eight years at Marriott International Inc. in similar positions.
Chiovera has an Associates Degree in Culinary Arts and a Bachelor's Degree in Food Service Management from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, R.I . He continued his studies at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, earning graduate credits towards his MBA.
7-Eleven operates, franchises or licenses more than 8,300 c-stores in North America.
Couche-Tard operates a network of 5,904 c-stores. The stores are operated by 12 business units, including nine in the United States covering 42 states and the District of Columbia--most under the Circle K banner--and three in Canada covering all 10 provinces.
