REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio -- Englefield Oil Co. and the Duchess Shoppes have announced that they are partnering with the Ohio State Highway Patrol in a safety effort aimed at pedestrian safety education and awareness.
"We will be switching out our regular Duchess Shoppe carryout bags for "neon green"-colored bags during the busy travel months this summer as an effort geared towards greater visibility for pedestrian traffic and on coming motorists," it said.
According to the company, in 2011, 30% of the fatal crashes in Franklin County were pedestrian related.
"This partnership is just one step in attempting to address these unfortunate incidences with a proactive measure," it said.
"The yellow bags just don't show up as well," Richard Fravel of Englefield Oil told WBNS-TV. "These neon green--not just green, but neon green --bags are going to stand out from quite a distance. We're hoping that in return, people will be seeing them sooner than too late."
The merchandise bags are being distributed at stores statewide between Memorial Day and Labor Day, said the report.
