Alliance Data Systems Acquires POS Provider

Atrana will expand payment services capabilities, product offerings, client relationships

DALLAS -- Alliance Data Systems Corp., a provider of transaction services, credit services and marketing services, said it has acquired Atrana Solutions Inc., a provider point-of-sale (POS) technology solutions.

Atrana specializes in the design and development of comprehensive transaction-oriented technology solutions for retailers, financial processors, POS hardware manufacturers, telecommunications providers and other transaction-based businesses.

Also based in Dallas, Atrana has approximately 30 employees, all of whom will [image-nocss] become Alliance employees.

Denise McCauley, senior vice president of Alliance's Network Services group, said, We view this acquisition as a move that reinforces our long-term business strategy of leveraging our existing expertise in payment processing and adding innovative and increasingly desirable products and capabilities that give us a competitive edge.

The acquisition of Atrana further strengthens Alliance's position in the payment services industry through the addition of experienced and highly qualified industry professionals; proven product solutions that enable consumers to purchase, activate and reload additional financial products at the point of purchase; and through expanded capabilities Alliance can bring to its current client relationships, it said.Alliance will also have opportunities to leverage Atrana's existing clients and electronic product providers.

Atrana provides full, end-to-end transaction support for retailers, suppliers and distributors of products that are sold, activated and reloaded at the point of sale. Atrana's transaction services include support for prepaid wireless top-up, long-distance cards, third-party gift cards and prepaid bankcard products. Additionally, Atrana writes custom software deployed at the point ofsale that adds value to client programs and that also offers a full-service terminal deployment to customers.

We feel that Atrana provides us with significant technical capabilities in the fast-growing area of transferring cash to various prepaid products, said McCauley. We also see opportunities to combine these products with full debit and credit processing in a single POS device. Additionally, we'll explore the addition of Alliance's database marketing skills to manage programs for suppliers while driving retail visits.

Atrana's PAYWAVE network provides intelligent gateway and processing services supporting the value-add marketplace. Specialties include credit, debit, EBT, check, stored-value, biometric and advanced electronic currency systems.
