Hawaii's largest independent gas, c-store marketer teams with largest locally owned grocer

HONOLULU -- Aloha Petroleum Ltd. and Foodland Super Market Ltd. have opened the Foodland Gas Station at Kehalani Village Center on Maui. This is the fourth joint venture for the largest gasoline marketer in the state and Hawaii's largest locally owned and operated grocery retailer, and the first on Maui.

The new Foodland Gas Station sells three grades of gasoline--regular, plus and super, as well as diesel fuel.

In celebration of the opening, customers will have the chance to win $50 in gasoline and groceries every day through March 31, 2014. In addition, all Maika'i customers will receive a 10-cent-per-gallon discount when paying with cash during the promotion period.

"We're so pleased to continue our longstanding relationship with Aloha Petroleum with the opening of our first Foodland Gas Station on Maui," said Jenai S. Wall, Foodland chairman and CEO. "And we're excited to follow this venture with the opening of our new Foodland Kehalani store in the spring."

"We are also very pleased to open another station with our valuable Foodland partners, especially in the Wailuku growth area that has minimal retail fuel stations," said Richard Parry, Aloha Petroleum president and CEO. "This station represents our second Aloha- branded location on Maui and our third location in Lahaina will be coming soon."

Aloha Petroleum and The Sullivan Family of Cos., operators of Foodland, Food Pantry and Kalama Beach Corp., have other successful jointly operated retail fuel sites located in Pahoa and Hilo on the Big Island and in Ewa Beach on Oahu.

Aloha Petroleum is the largest independent gasoline marketer and convenience store operator in the state, with a history in Hawaii that dates back to the early 1900s. Aloha employs more than 500 Hawaii residents and markets through almost 100 Shell- , Aloha- , and Mahalo-branded fueling stations and 40 Aloha Island Mart c-stores throughout the state.

Foodland Super Market was founded in 1948 by the late Maurice J. "Sully" Sullivan. It was the first modern supermarket to open in Hawaii. Today, the kama'aina company employs more than 2,500 people at its 32 Foodland, Sack N Save and Foodland Farms stores on four islands, and is Hawaii's largest locally owned and operated grocery retailer.
