Familiar Face to Lead Chevron C-Store Venture

ExtraMile poised to grow well beyond current markets

SAN RAMON, Calif. -- Longtime convenience-store-industry executive Paul Casadont will lead Chevron USA’s newly announced division, ExtraMile Convenience Stores LLC, CSP Daily Newshas learned.

ExtraMile Convenience Stores is a Chevron partnership with Jacksons Food Stores intended to grow the ExtraMile c-store brand across the West and possibly farther.

“We’ve grown [ExtraMile] tremendously, but we haven’t reached saturation,” Lorne Chambers, Chevron’s general manager for retail west, told CSP about establishing the joint partnership. “Scale is important, so we asked ourselves: How can we position ourselves to continue to grow this retail brand? And the answer was to find a partner who could help us grow and maintain that Chevron link.”

Meridian, Idaho-based Jacksons Food Stores offer Chevron-branded fuel at more than 60 of its 230 c-stores. Those 60-plus stores will be rebranded to ExtraMile in the next six to 12 months as the first step toward doubling the number of ExtraMile stores in the West.

The ExtraMile system currently includes more than 700 c-stores in California, Oregon and Washington. Jacksons’ rebranding will extend the brand into Idaho, Nevada, Utah and Arizona. The new company will work to grow the brand from there.

“Certainly, we’ll start by looking to grow and fill in the states where we already have a presence,” Chambers said, “but the joint partnership is not restricted by any geography to grow. Its only restricted by our ability to grow the brand.”

Casadont (pictured) has worked for Chevron since 1992. He currently is merchandising manager for the Americas region and will take over as president of ExtraMile Convenience Stores early in 2018, when the transaction to create the new company is complete.

“He was at the inception of the ExtraMile brand being born, and he’s seen it grow to where it is today,” Chambers said.

Prior to joining Chevron, Casadont worked in merchandising and store operations for Circle K from 1987 through 1992.

Chevron USA's Chevron Corp., San Ramon, Calif., is one of the few U.S. oil companies still committed to having a direct-operated retail network. Chevron-branded products are sold in more than 8,000 retail locations in the United States, and the major oil supplies more than 2,500 service stations in Southern and Eastern states with Texaco-branded fuel.

Jacksons Food Stores Inc. is based in Meridian, Idaho. Jacksons’ affiliates, Capitol Distributing Inc. and Jackson Energy, provide wholesale grocery and fuel supply services to retailers in nine Western states.
