ALTOONA, Pa. — Mid-Atlantic convenience-store retailer Sheetz Inc. is expanding into western Ohio by opening approximately 20 locations in Dayton over the next five years. It is aiming to open its first Dayton store in 2024, the company said.

“We are thrilled to continue our growth in Ohio and bring the ultimate one-stop-shop to the residents of Dayton,” said Travis Sheetz, president and CEO of the Altoona, Pa.-based chain. “Built on the values my Uncle Bob instilled when he founded Sheetz in 1952, we look forward to being a great employer and neighbor that is actively involved in the Dayton community.”

Sheetz opened its first store in the Columbus, Ohio, market in April 2021. It currently operates 56 locations in Ohio, with an overall store count of 647 across its six-state footprint, which includes Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland.

Each Sheetz location employs approximately 30 people, the company said.

Earlier in April, Sheetz was ranked 33rd on the Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For list. The recognition follows Sheetz’s recent investment of more than $70 million in store employee wages in 2021. It also follows an investment doubling the tuition assistance that the company offers to employees through its college tuition reimbursement program, and a recent pay increase for overnight workers as Sheetz is providing an additional $1.50 per hour for store employees who work the 10 p.m.-6 a.m. shift.

In March, with a goal of hiring 3,500 employees company wide, Sheetz hosted several hiring days. The company offers competitive pay and benefits packages to all employees, including medical and dental insurance, a 401(k) retirement plan, an employee stock ownership plan, flexible schedules, opportunities for advancement, quarterly bonuses, vacation time and more. Sheetz also offers 12 weeks of fully paid time off for new mothers and two weeks of fully paid time off for partners.
