CSP's Top 202 C-Store Chains

Say hello to 101 more chains.

In an effort to better portray the breadth of the c-store landscape, CSP has doubled the number of chains included in our annual Top 101, now in its fourth year.

It’s also the first year that the product formerly known as the Top 101 comes from Technomic’s Digital Resource Library (DRL), an online research tool that last year merged with CSPedia, CSP’s c-store database. This marriage of Technomic’s data analysis and CSP’s editorial comprehension of the industry yields a ranking of 48,258 U.S. c-stores across the spectrum of size, sales and retail strategies.

Of course, for those in the business of counting c-stores, the biggest news of the past year was Alimentation Couche-Tard acquiring CST Brands. But the real revelations here are the dozens of below-the-radar chains doing business with 30 to 50 stores. Most aren’t familiar names, yet they represent almost 42% of the Top 202.

CSP’s Top 202 of 2017 deconstructs a complex channel, revealing its true values, perspectives and drumbeats.
