A segment and demographic analysis

CHICAGO -- Snack innovation is driving growth in the product category. And millennials are driving nearly half of all snack sales, according to data from IRI, Chicago.

While consumers preach a desire for healthier items to snack on, indulgent segments and flavors are seeing sales growth, as well.

Here's a look at the snacks segments that saw the most growth in 2017 and an analysis of how to reach some of the fastest growing demographics among consumers.

Snacks That Saw the Most Growth in 2017

  1. "Other" salted snacks (e.g, Gardetto's, Chex Mix, Harvest Snaps): +28%
  2. Tortilla chips: +15%
  3. Potato chips: +12%
  4. Cheese snacks: +12%
  5. Dried meat snacks: +7%
