
Allsup’s World Famous Burrito is turning 50 years old in 2024, and the company is kicking off a year-long celebration to honor the milestone.
“That’s five decades of fresh-fried greatness,” Allsup’s said on its website. “An American success story that all began with a roadside stand that created an iconic burrito of legendary glory. Remember, some legends are born, but ours has been fresh fried for [50] years.”
Allsup’s hand-held fried burritos come in flavors like Beef & Bean and “Chimi” Chimichanga. The item has become a staple in the chain’s convenience stores, even prompting Austin-based singer Aaron LaCombe to write a song title “Allsups Burrito (A Love Song), the Santa Fe New Mexican reported.
- BW Gas & Convenience Holdings LLC, which owns Yesway and Allsup’s, is No. 18 on CSP’s2023 Top 202 ranking of convenience-store chains by store count.
The company is rolling out promotions at all Allsup’s and Yesway convenience stores. Yesway, Fort Worth, Texas, bought the 304-store regional chain in New Mexico, West Texas and Oklahoma in November 2019.
Customers can buy two Beef & Bean burritos and get a Tallsup, Allsup’s fountain beverage brand, for 50 cents with a rewards card, Allsup’s website said. Fiftieth anniversary merchandise is also available on the company’s website. Three black T-shirts area available, all celebrating the burrito’s 50 years.
