Aloha Introduces Cleaner Gas Blend

Shell Canada also goes top-tier

HONOLULU -- Aloha Petroleum has introduced a top-tier gasoline approved by four major automakers to the Hawaii market, reported Pacific Business News.

The local retailer secured the certification recently for its PowerTech branded gasoline by adding detergents to regular and premium grades to make the fuel burn cleaner. This classification is higher than the U.S. Environmental Protection Agencys (EPA) current requirements.

Aloha is one of 14 brands nationally that have this certification that BMW, General Motors, Honda and Toyota support. Other Hawaii retailers with the certification include Chevron, Union 76 and Shell, said the report.

Larry Adams, Alohas marketing director, told the newspaper that the company is absorbing the cost of the additives.

Earlier this month, Calgary, Alberta-based Shell Canada announced that it was the first Canada-wide fuel producer and marketer to meet Top-Tier Detergent Gasoline standards established by the four automakers.

Achieving top-tier status means detergency levels in each grade of Shell Canadas gasoline (Bronze, Silver and premium V-Power) are higher than what is set by the Canadian General Standards Board.

And in other fuel-quality-related news, Chicago-based BP said that the annual Fuels Quality Survey conducted by The NPD Group Inc. recently revealed that Amoco Fuels at BP"available at all sites east of the Rockies"were again rated highest in quality across all three grades: premium Amoco Ultimate, Amoco Silver and Amoco Regular gasolines.
