Thorntons Relaunches Gas-Price Alert Text Program With GasBuddy

Debuts improved features, expanded market coverage

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Thorntons Inc. has relaunched its Gas Price Alert text program with new and improved features hosted by GasBuddy and powered by the OpenSource software, and with expanded market coverage for the chain's Midwestern and southeastern customer base.

The program requires a one-time participant text to 55123 that includes a market code (e.g., LOUGPA for Metro Louisville) for the areas for which customers wish to receive alerts. Participants will receive a text message before fuel prices are set to increase at the pump, with an alert sent each time Thorntons is notified of a confirmed increase. Customers can also sign up by calling a toll-free number.

"The Gas Price Alert texting program reinforces Thorntons' consumer-friendly approach to providing the best value for our customers," said Matt Thornton, president and CEO. "It's a significant money saver that allows them to receive the same 'insider information' we get when fuel prices fluctuate and allows our customers time to grab a few gallons or fill up just prior to any price increase."

The Thorntons/GasBuddy app is available for immediate download now at the Apple App Store, Google Play, Windows Phone and Blackberry App World and all participants previously signed up for Thorntons Gas Alerts texts in its original format will automatically be transferred to the new system that launches today.

Brooklyn Park, Minn.-based GasBuddy is a leading consumer app and website to help consumers find cheap gas prices and is relied on by more than 26 million motorists to pinpoint the most comprehensive and accurate gasoline prices at service stations and convenience stores across the United States and Canada. People use the website and app to share the gasoline prices that they see on their daily commutes.

Louisville, Ky.-based Thorntons is a leading independent gasoline and convenience chain currently operating throughout the Midwest. With more than $2.3 billion in revenue, it is the largest privately held corporation in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
