Candy Bars Break into Coffee

Mars introduces Twix Java, Snickers Charged line extensions

HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. -- Mars Snackfood US has rolled out two new candy bars featuring coffee. The Twix brand has introduced Twix Java, and the Snickers brand has introduced Snickers Charged.

The limited-edition Twix Java is a three-layered blend of coffee-flavored caramel coated over a chocolate cookie and covered in milk chocolate. A touch of real espresso beans enhances the flavor.

Now available in food, mass merchandise, club, convenience and drug stores nationwide through February 2008, Twix Java come in a 2-oz. single pack (comprised of two Twix bars) and retails for 55 cents. [image-nocss] Twix Java contains a small amount of naturally occurring caffeine, about 2 milligrams (mg) per serving with negligible amount contributed by the espresso pieces.

The Twix Caramel Cookie Bar was first introduced in the United States in 1979. Existing product lines include Twix Caramel Cookie Bars, Twix Peanut Butter Cookie Bars and Twix Ice Cream.

Snickers Charged is the first candy bar from the brand that provides a boost of energy with added caffeine, taurine and B-vitamins. It contains 60 mg of caffeine. In comparison, an 8-oz. soft drink contains 20-40 mg of caffeine, an 8-oz. regular coffee contains 65-120 mg of caffeine and an 8-oz. energy drink contains 72-80 mg of caffeine, the company said.

The new Snickers Charged bar adds caffeine, taurine and B-vitamins to the nougat, peanuts, peanuts, caramel and milk chocolate.

Now available in select food, mass merchandise, club, convenience and drug stores through March 2008, Snickers Charged comes in a 1.83-oz. single pack (comprised of one Snickers Charged bar) and retails for 65 cents.
