Convenience-store giant 7-Eleven is participating in DoorDash’s Summer of DashPass by offering free Slurpees with a $5 purchase on Fridays from June 16 to July 16.

From July 13 to 19, 7-Eleven is offering a 30% discount on orders of $25 or more purchased with DashPass, according to a DoorDash announcement about the promotion.

7-Eleven often ties promotions to holidays or seasonal events, and the Summer of DashPass campaign is an example. The company recently offered fuel discounts for Memorial Day travel. With a larger percentage of customers using SNAP benefits at 7-Eleven than at many other retailers, the company's discounts are important to many shoppers.

While most of DoorDash’s partners are restaurants, the company is testing the convenience retail market with its own c-store called DashMart. Its summer DashPass also include DashMart promotions.

Based on its most recent quarterly report, DoorDash is growing, but the convenience market in general hasn't embraced delivery.

Its total orders rose 27% in the 12 months ended March 31 to about 512 million. Marketplace GOV revenue hit $15.9 billion in the first quarter, up 29% over the year-ago quarter. The company defines Marketplace GOV revenue as the total dollar value of orders completed on its marketplaces, including taxes, tips and any consumer fees. It also includes membership fees related to DashPass subscriptions, offering unlimited monthly restaurant deliveries for about $10 a month, and Wolt+, a European subscription service. In March, DoorDash announced Lush Cosmetics, Victoria’s Secret and Party City were among the 100,000 non-restaurant companies using its platform.
