7-Eleven Selects NEC as Exclusive POS Provider

Deal covers 8,600 convenience stores

IRVING, Texas --7-Eleven Inc. has selected NEC Corp. of America as its exclusive point-of-sale (POS) provider to approximately 8,600 7-Eleven convenience stores in the United States and Canada.

To offer consumers a personalized shopping experience, NEC, a provider and integrator of IT, communications, networking, retail and biometric solutions, will deliver the TWINPOS G5100 POS, which features a display to run promotions and share information with customers.

“We wanted to reach tech-savvy customers with a POS system that would streamline operations and improve customer engagement,” said Raj Kapoor, CIO and senior vice president for 7-Eleven. “Providing an engaging digital in-store experience is something we are investing in for the long term, and NEC has the best POS hardware and software to take us there.”

As a part of the solution, NEC will offer service desk and maintenance support for the next five years. Having fully integrated development and support service will help 7-Eleven provide an engaging customer experience while offering an attractive lower total cost of its POS systems and equipment, NEC said.

“It is exciting to see our longstanding collaboration with 7-Eleven benefit stores in the U.S.,” said Shin Takahashi, CEO of NEC Corp. of America, Irving, Texas. “Our retail POS systems bring together the best of NEC technology, reliability and durability to support any store environment for retailers of all types.”

NEC Corp. of America, a subsidiary of NEC Corp., Tokyo, is a technology integrator with a presence in 140 countries and $29.5 billion in revenues.

Irving, Texas-based 7-Eleven operates, franchises or licenses more than 61,000 convenience stores in 17 countries, including approximately 10,900 in North America.
