Convenience-store retailer ampm is expanding its frictionless checkout technology to more stadium stores.

The chain, owned by bp, partnered with retail solutions provider GSP to add autonomous checkout technology at the ampm store at T-Mobile Park, where the Seattle Mariners play Major League Baseball. The store (pictured above) reopened in June under the ampm asap brand.

ampm made similar updates in August to its store at the Chase Center in San Francisco, home of the Golden State Warriors professional basketball team.

The ampm store at T-Mobile Park had been open for six years, and had a dated design and challenging layout, bp said.

“With the help of the Mariners team and GSP, we were able to reconfigure the space and refresh all the graphics throughout giving the location a completely new look and feel,” bp said.

GSP did a space planning exercise with the Mariners concessions team to reconfigure the retail space. Once the layout of the space was defined, they worked on the updated graphics and designs, including special treatments such as the wayfinding guides and app promotional graphics found on the coolers.

The store’s new branding represents the culture of Seattle, reflecting the modern aesthetic of the stadium, GSP said. The grab-and-go purchase system allows eventgoers to scan their debit or credit cards, select their items, and scan them under a transaction payment device. Retail associates verify ages for beer and wine sales.

“Convenience, speed and accuracy are important to fans as they don’t want to miss the event while they’re away from their ticketed seats,” GSP said.

The ampm store at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles (pictured below), which also was updated in partnership with GSP, was considered for autonomous checkout technology updates, but the infrastructure of the current space was not able to support the technology needs, a bp spokesperson told CSP. The redesigned store debuted in May, featuring a standee of ampm mascot Toomgis, GSP said.

GSP, Clearwater, Florida, provides retail solutions that drive traffic, reduce costs and enhance customer experience, the company said.

The La Palma, California-based ampm chain is a bp convenience-store brand. bp is No. 7 on CSP’s 2023 Top 202 ranking of U.S. c-store chains by company-owned store count, with more than 1,220 locations. London-based bp’s mobility and c-store brands in the United States include bp, Amoco, ampm, Thorntons and TravelCenters of America.
