Giant-Sized Launch

Refiner-marketer rolls out PaySpot prepaid program in all 123 stores

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. Refiner-marketer Giant Industries Inc. recently signed a multi-year agreement under which PaySpot Inc. will provide electronic prepaid products, including prepaid wireless, gift cards and bill payment, to Giant's 123 retail stores, located in Arizona, New Mexico and Colorado.

Giant and PaySpot launched the prepaid suite simultaneously to all 123 Giant locations, as opposed to a staggered or piloted rollout. Within three days of installing PaySpot's prepaid program, Giant's daily prepaid product sales exceeded the highest day sales [image-nocss] volume achieved through its previous supplier, according to Leawood, Kansas-based PaySpot.

PaySpot's product offering currently includes prepaid mobile airtime for more than 30 different wireless carriers, a variety of long distance products, mall cards, prepaid wireless handsets, mobile content and a prepaid MasterCard program. It is preparing to provide Giant with a comprehensive gift card program, as well as Veloz Money Transfer & Bill Payment.

PaySpot also made it possible for Giant to add a local wireless provider which Giant had been unable to sell previously, the provider said. Additionally, Giant chose an IP-enabled terminal, which decreased store transaction times and noticeably improved clerk efficiency, PaySpot added.

On the marketing front, PaySpot worked with Giant to determine which point-of-sale (POS) materials would prove most effective in Giant's retail locations.

PaySpot is expanding our retail partnerships in the U.S., which made Giant Industries an exciting win for us. We saw an opportunity to help them improve upon their existing prepaid offering and increase sales, and they were looking for a prepaid provider with a complete suite of products who would take the time to form a relationship with them, said Tom Cregan, president of PaySpot.

PaySpot, a Euronet Worldwide subsidiary, offers prepaid products, including prepaid wireless, prepaid long-distance, prepaid gift cards, prepaid debit cards, age verification, check guarantee, bill payment and money transfer. The PaySpot system supports online electronic top-up at retail locations via a range of POS terminals or through integrated electronic cash registers for retailers with multiple locations and multiple checkout points.

Giant Industries, Scottsdale, Ariz., owns and operates one Virginia and two New Mexico crude oil refineries; a pipeline system based in Farmington, N.M.; finished products distribution terminals in Albuquerque, N.M., and Flagstaff; a fleet of crude oil and finished product truck transports, and a chain of retail gas station/convenience stores in New Mexico, Colorado and Arizona. Giant is also the parent company of wholesale petroleum products distributors Phoenix Fuel Co. Inc. and Dial Oil Co.
