Heads Up, 7 UP Adds Splenda

Cadbury Schweppes reformulates diet mainstay

PLANO, Texas -- Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages is reformulating its Diet 7 UP with Splenda Brand Sweetener. The reformulated beverage will hit shelves nationwide starting Monday, May 23.

We are excited to be the first and only diet lemon-lime carbonated soft drink to make the switch, said Randy Gier, executive vice president of marketing, Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages. Inspired by our consumers, Diet 7 UP sweetened with Splenda Brand Sweetener stays true to our great lemon-lime flavor but also meets the needs of our calorie-conscious consumers [image-nocss] who have told us that Splenda Brand Sweetener is their preferred choice.

Marketing support for Diet 7 UP with Splenda will include a promotion to kick off the summer months, as well as a commercial breaking in June.

In addition to Diet 7 UP with Splenda, Plano-Texas-based Cadbury Schweppes Americas Beverages offers several other products sweetened with Splenda, including 7 UP PLUS, Diet Rite and a number of Diet Snapple flavors, including the newly introduced Diet Lemonade Iced Tea and Diet Plum-A-Granate Tea. Diet Rite was the first carbonated beverage to use Splenda, the company said.

Splenda retail brand products are marketed by McNeil Nutritionals LLC, a Johnson & Johnson company. Splenda is used in more than 4,000 products of major food brands worldwide.
