CHICAGO -- CBD is expected to be one of the fastest-growing product categories over the next decade, with sales predicted to grow nearly tenfold and top $5 billion by 2027.

What exactly is CBD, or cannibidiol? That’s a question that’s been on retailers’ minds as the legalization of marijuana has gained support for both recreational and medical use, and its cousin, CBD, has gained exposure because of its nonpsychoactive properties and alleged medicinal qualities.

Right now, CBD is the hottest product on the market, and it’s everywhere. Convenience retailers have an opportunity to increase revenue and drive traffic to their stores by offering CBD-enhanced products, from coffee shots to gummy bears, bath bombs to dog treats. But what's the protocol?

Winsight and CSP saw the need to provide high-quality and trustworthy information to the industries it serves and will host the CBD & the Future of Cannabis Conference April 9-11 in Denver.

“This is the perfect opportunity to learn the ins and outs of a burgeoning product category,” said Steve Holtz, content director for Winsight’s convenience group. “The entire retail industry is wondering how to capitalize on cannabis, and this meeting of the most forward-thinking retailers in the convenience-store industry will set the pace.”

During this three-day event, attendees will learn about legislation surrounding marijuana and CBD, discuss the types of products available, take a tour of a local dispensary and farm, and address what to expect from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and how CBD will affect food, tobacco and alcohol sales.

Attendees will also hear from industry experts such as Vivien Azer, managing director of Cowen, specializing in beverages, cannabis and tobacco; Colleen Keahey Lanier, executive director of the Hemp Industries Association; and Frank Herrera, managing attorney with H New Media Law. Also speaking will be Winsight’s own Donna Hood Crecca, principal with Technomic; and Melissa Vonder Haar, former senior tobacco editor for CSP magazine.
