Rutter’s Adds 2 Local Favorites to Its Menu

Pork belly and Pepperoni ‘Roni’ Rolls sourced from area vendors

YORK, Pa. -- Convenience-store retailer Rutter’s is expanding its food menu to include two local favorites: pork belly, which has gained attention in restaurants, and Pepperoni “Roni” Rolls.

On May 16, the York, Pa.-based retailer added pork belly, with a flavor profile consistent with a thicker, more decadent cut of bacon, as an additional topping for items such as burgers, sandwiches and mac and cheese. It can also be ordered as a stand-alone sandwich, sub or wrap. The pork belly is from local vendor Garrett Valley in Swedesboro, N.J. Rutter’s will be the only c-store chain in the country initially to have this item from the vendor, Rutter’s said.

Later this May, Rutter’s will introduce Roni Rolls, featuring soft, Italian dough stuffed with pepperoni and mozzarella cheese and topped with cheese. Rutter’s partnered with another local vendor, Mom’s Wholesale Foods in New Castle, Pa., on this item.

“We focus on local manufacturers and suppliers to help us bring high-quality ingredients to our customers,” said Ryan Krebs, director of foodservice for Rutter’s. “Rutter’s is very honored to be working with great local companies like Garrett Valley and Mom’s Wholesale Foods to provide our customers with new and exciting products.”

Earlier this year, Rutter's created a new position focused on searching for products closer to home. Rutter’s describes local food items as products that come from producers/manufacturers within a 100-mile radius from its corporate office or in the state of Pennsylvania.

York, Pa.-based Rutter's, formerly Rutter's Farm Stores, has more than 60 c-stores in central Pennsylvania. The company ranked No. 92 on CSP's 2017 Top 202 list of the largest chains in the United States.
