Deep-Fried Twinkies Could Hit Stores Soon …

… along with Hostess tortillas, bagels, English muffins

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Hostess Brands LLC, which recently expanded its bakery lineup to include white bread, wheat bread, hot dog buns and hamburger buns, is seriously thinking about adding bagels, tortillas and English muffins, The New York Post has reported.

State-fair staple deep-fried Twinkies also could be one of the new products, in frozen form, the report said.

Kansas City, Mo.-based Hostess Brands owns the Twinkies, CupCakes, Ding Dongs, Ho Hos, Zingers, Suzy Q's, Sno Balls, Donettes, Fruit Pie and other snack-cake brands.

Hostess Brands is selling bread and buns with shelf life of two months or longer targeted for sale in drug stores and convenience stores that have limited food selection and also are carrying the company’s Twinkies and other sweet goods.

Private-equity firms Apollo Global Management LLC and C. Dean Metropoulos & Co. bought Hostess Brands out of bankruptcy for $410 million in March 2013.

Before the bankruptcy filing, Hostess also owned the Wonder Bread and other bread brands, which it sold to Thomasville Ga.-based Flowers Foods Inc. in January 2013.
