CITGO, Wheels Join Customers to Support Cancer Survivors

Participating locations will donate five cents per gallon to CT Challenge

TRUMBULL, Conn. – Starting in mid-June, when customers purchase gasoline at Consumers Petroleum’s participating Wheels Convenience Stores and CITGO gas stations, the businesses will donate a portion of the proceeds to the CT Challenge, a non-profit that helps cancer survivors in Connecticut and throughout the United States rebuild, improve and prolong their lives through exercise, nutrition, mind-body health and community-building programs.

“We want to demonstrate our dedication in aiding the 14.5 million cancer survivors locally and nationwide,” said Christine Hogan, president at Consumers Petroleum. “We encourage our loyal customers to join us and pitch in for a great cause. All they need to do is visit one of the participating locations on select days, and five cents of every gallon of gasoline purchased will go towards the CT Challenge.”

The fundraiser will run until Wheels meets its fundraising goal or through July 25, the last day of the CT Challenge’s two-day bike ride bringing together teams and individual cyclists who have raised money to help cancer survivors. In another show of support, Wheels will have a team of employees representing the company at the bike ride.

“We are really excited to have Wheels Convenience Stores and CITGO gasoline stations commit to cancer survivors on this scale,” said CT Challenge founder and CEO Jeff Keith, a Fairfield, Conn., native who survived pediatric cancer after losing his right leg to the disease when he was 12 years old.

“It really speaks to their care for the communities in which they do business and for the exploding demographic of survivors. CT Challenge and the ride that supports all our programs, including the one-of-a-kind Center for Survivorship in Southport, are game-changers for survivors who have next to nowhere to turn after treatment is done, despite after effects that can be as life-threatening as the protocols needed to save their lives. We’re changing that, dramatically, thanks to support like CT Challenge is receiving from Wheels Convenience Stores and CITGO gasoline stations.”

To contribute, customers can visit the Wheels Convenience Stores and CITGO gas stations in Fairfield, Wilton and Westport, Conn.

For all ATM transactions conducted at participating locations, Paramount Management Group will also be donating an additional five cents to the CT Challenge.

Founded in 1936, Consumers Petroleum is a third-generation family-owned and operated gasoline distributorship that sells branded gasoline to customers in Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
