WAWA, Pa. -- Embarking on an initiative unprecedented in the company's more than 50-year history as a convenience store retailer, Wawa Inc. has launched the Wawa Remodel Program, a massive effort to remodel older, legacy stores to reflect Wawa's latest design, technology and foodservice offering.
As reported in a 21st Century Smokes/CSP Daily News Flash, Wawa will remodel 40 existing stores throughout 2015--the most in one year in the chain's more than 50-year history. As part of the program, all Wawa stores will receive improved layout features to improve efficiency and to support an expanded food and beverage offer.
New features will include:
- Diesel pumps at locations with fuel.
- Hand-spun milkshakes.
- Coca- Cola Freestyle fountain units.
- New store graphics and designs.

"This effort is extremely meaningful to all of as at Wawa, as it will enable us to share the most up-to-date Wawa brand features with more people in more places than ever before," said Chris Gheysens, Wawa's president and CEO. "Through this massive remodeling effort, we will enhance the customer and associate experience in our stores and begin to bring our older stores up to date by featuring our latest offer and design."
During the remodel process, stores will close for a few weeks while renovations take place.
The company will launch a web page dedicated to the remodeling initiative by March 1.
February and March closings and openings include locations in Philadelphia (closes February 9, opens March 6), Toms River N.J. (February 16, March 6), Gloucester N.J. (February 23, March 13), Winslow, N.J. (March 2, March 20) and Wrightstown, N.J. (March 9, March 27)
The Wawa, Pa.-based retailer has more than 680 convenience stores (more than 400 offering gasoline), located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and Virginia and Central Florida. The stores offer a large fresh food service selection, including Wawa brands such as built-to-order hoagies, freshly brewed coffee, hot breakfast sandwiches, built-to-order specialty beverages and an assortment of soups, sides and snacks.
