OAK BROOK, Ill. -- Acquisitions, the lure of Florida and the benefits of the corporate structure known as master limited partnerships (MLPs) were high on retailers’ minds in 2012. But 24% of readers responding to a CSP Daily News Poll said Tesco admitting the failure of its Fresh & Easy concept in the United States was the biggest retailer news story of 2012.
Meanwhile, 16% each voted for 7-Eleven’s acquisition spree, MLPs, and Wawa and Thorntons expansion into Florida. Couche-Tard’s acquisition activity in 2013 eared 13% of the vote, while Energy Transfer Partners acquisition of Sunoco earned 8%.
But the “daily” stories that drew the most eyeballs to CSP Daily News throughout the year tell a slightly different story. There, Couche-Tard leader Alain Bouchard’s retailing goals piqued readers’ attention, as did new-store designs, customer loyalty programs and threats to business as usual.
With that, CSP Daily News offers this list of the top 10 most-read stories from the year, along with links to refresh your memory or catch up if you missed them the first time.
