Razed & Rebuilt

Two chains' new stores feature latest designs, product offerings

NEW FREEDOM, Pa., & OMAHA, Neb. -- Two stalwart c-store brands will open new raze-and-rebuild stores today, showcasing their latest and greatest technology, product offerings and design elements. Rutter's Farm Stores will open a 4,300-sq.-ft. store mid-day today in New Freedom, Pa., while Kum & Go opened the doors to its newest store in Omaha, Neb., this morning.

We look forward to providing our Omaha customers expanded service offerings and the best customer experience possible, said Kyle Krause, CEO of West Des Moines, Iowa-based Kum & [image-nocss] Go.

The Omaha Kum & Go located at 12011 Blondo St. was torn down this past fall, and the 3,400-sq.-ft. replacement showcases the latest in convenience store technology, according to the company.

Caf a Fresh, a unique feature offering pizza, Angus beef burgers, chicken, deli sandwiches and bakery items, will be offered as a quick and convenient foodservice. Patrick Williams will manage the store.

The Rutter's site at 2 Broad St., New Freedom, previously was home to a 2,700-sq.-ft. store until November, when that building was razed to make way for Rutter's latest store concept.

The 24-hour store will feature 10 fueling positions (compared with only four at the old store) that will dispense gasoline, diesel and kerosene under a canopy. Customers will enter through two sets of automatic doors on the front of the building. Inside, customers will find Rutter's proprietary Famous Express Deli and Famous Express Grill, an upscale self-serve coffee bar, and a seating area. The manager is Rose Allison, and the deli manager is Stephanie Titus.

York, Pa.-based Rutter's Farm Stores operates 51 c-stores in Pennsylvania. The family-owned and third generation-managed dairy opened its first c-store in 1967.

Kum & Go began in 1959 in Hampton, Iowa, and has grown to more than 430 c-stores in 13 states.
