Career, corporate moves at Family Express, High's, Kwik Shop, CrossAmerica, more

MESA, Ariz. -- The staff of CSPedia, CSP Business Media's online encyclopedia of convenience store chains, gathers news and insights and updates the listings for the nearly 500 retailers in its database on a daily basis. CSPedia delivers a monthly summary of these reports, often news not yet announced publicly, to its subscribers.

People on the Move

  • Family Express. Joshua Malin is director of facilities at the Indiana company.
  • Fleet Morris Petroleum Inc. Allen Lawrence is director of operations, replacing Brian Lee, who left the Mississippi company.
  • General Equities. Ed Hart has taken over purchasing for the company's 51 c-stores after the retirement of Jerry Feldott. Hart also handles purchasing for the wholesale side of the Connecticut company.
  • High's of Baltimore (Carroll Independent Fuel Co.). David Worrell and Steven Thrush are sharing general manager duties for the Baltimore company, following the departure of GM Benjamin Jatlow.
  • Kwik Shop - The Kroger Co. Michael Santiago has accepted a position with the corporate office of The Kroger Co. at Cincinnati headquarters, leaving the marketing vice president position vacant at Kwik Shop.
  • Speedy Stop Food Stores (C.L. Thomas). Scott Campbell, former director of merchandising and marketing, left the Texas company in January. The position has not been filled.
  • Spencer Distributing LP (JJ's Fastop). Monica Bradshaw Calcote, who was buyer and retail supervisor, is no longer with the Texas chain. A replacement has not been named.
  • Suncor Energy Inc. (Petro-Canada). Alex Zaphiratos has joined the company's category-management team.
  • Tri Star Energy LLC (Twice Daily). Lisa Pickett has joined as manager of food and beverages. The Tennessee company operates 70 stores.
  • Western Convenience. Kayvan Pourjavaheri is assistant director of marketing and buyer for the Colorado chain with 43 stores.

In the News

  • American Gas & Oil has extended its partnership with CITGO and now operates 27 CITGO sites across western Michigan.
  • As the new owner of Coles Energy Inc., Dan Coles plans to add four or five new stores in 2015. The company operates 32 Mickey Mart Food Stores in northern Ohio.
  • CrossAmerica Partners LP has closed on its acquisition of Erickson Oil Products Inc. of Hudson, Wis., and its 64 Freedom Valu stores. CrossAmerica Partners CEO Joe Topper says the company expects the acquisition to act as a springboard for the company's growth in the Midwest.
  • Denny Oil Co. is rebranding stores as Check Point. The company is based in Nacogdoches, Texas, and operates 11 stores.
  • Douglass Distributing Retail Co. of Sherman, Texas, has added two locations that were operated formerly by 7-Eleven.
  • Massachusetts-based Energy North Group has expanded, acquiring Haffner Oil Co. and its 14 sites in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The chain now operates 45 sites.
  • Gate Petroleum Co. has opened a new store in its hometown of Jacksonville, Fla., bringing the chain's store count to 73 sites. Gate also distributes fuel to about 150 dealers.
  • Gulf Oil LP has partnered with Billaway as the platform provider for its Power Points loyalty program.
  • GPM Investments has completed the purchase of all former VPS stores, finalizing the acquisition of Village Pantry and Next Door stores in the Midwest. The chain now operates nearly 700 stores in 14 states in the Northeast, Southeast and Midwest.
  • Canadian company Hasty Market Corp. of Oakville, Ontario, has seven new sites under construction.
  • Midtex Oil LP has a new store underway in its New Braunfels, Texas, market, which will bring its store count to 21 later this year.
  • Murphy USA Inc. has begun selling E15 and E85 fuels at Chicago- and Houston-area sites. The Arkansas-based chain has about 1,200 locations.
  • Petro Star Inc., a petroleum company in Anchorage, Alaska, with 10 stores, has been added to CSPedia.
  • Sampson-Bladen Oil, operator of 70 Han-Dee Hugo's stores in North Carolina, has selected H.T. Hackney as its primary wholesale supplier.
  • SDI Petroleum Co. of Houston, acquirer and operator of Tejano Mart stores, plans to add new stores under the Dash Neighborhood concept it has developed. It will retain the Tejano Mart brand at existing stores.
  • SSG Corp. of Hudson, Wis., has remodeled some of its Holiday stores in the Duluth area as Kwik Trip stores enter the market. SSG operates 36 stores, including 33 as licensed Holiday sites, plus three liquor stores.
  • TravelCenters of America LLC has acquired six c-stores in Kentucky from Golightly & Long LLC, dba Cheers Food & Fuel. The deal closed in January and also includes two Arby's restaurants, one connected to a c-store and one freestanding unit, and one liquor store. The chain, based in Ohio, operates or franchises nearly 300 sites.
  • Wawa Inc., with nearly 700 stores in the Northeast, has announced it will undergo its largest remodeling project ever in 2015, targeting 40 stores for renovations to support the chain's expanded food and beverage offerings.
