Spinx Execs Earn Retail Management Certificates

15 managers graduate from year-long USCU business program
GREENVILLE, S.C. -- The University of South Carolina Upstate's George Dean Johnson Jr. College of Business & Economics will host the graduation of its Retail Management Certificate Program class on May 5 in the McAlister Square Auditorium at the University Center of Greenville; 15 Spinx Co. managers have completed the year-long program formed as a partnership between the Johnson College and Spinx, the largest locally owned gasoline-convenience retailer in South Carolina.

Receiving the Retail Management Certificates: Dennis K. Bailey, general manager of store 163 in [image-nocss] Spartanburg. Anna M. Barker, general manager of store 256 in Anderson. Gary M. Bryant, general manager of store 128 in Greer. Randy Cox, general manager of store 166 in Greer. Diana E. Gomez, general manager of store 114 in Greenville. Robert L. Hall, territory manager. Charmon D. Hawkins, quality control manager. Daniel K. Lewis, general manager of store 120 in Mauldin. Andrea D. Masker, general manager of store 201 in Simpsonville. Steven G. Nicholls, general manager of store 243 in Spartanburg. Sherri R. Putman, general manager of store 126 in Greer. Gerald D. Reynolds, general manager of store 169 in Spartanburg. Bobbie Jo Skipper, general manager of store 146 in Greenville. Anita D. Styles, general manager of store 112 in Greenville. William S. Youngblood, general manager of store 179 in Greenville. Retail management, communicative Spanish for retail personnel, accounting/financial analysis and communication theory and practice were the four core areas of the executive-level education program developed in collaboration between Spinx and the faculty of the Johnson College of Business & Economics.

"This retail management certificate will build upon the experience they have, enhance their leadership and retail skills and prove a valuable asset to the company and to them as individuals. We know first-hand the difference in competence and confidence a quality education makes, and we as a company welcome opportunities to invest in our most valued resources--our employees," said Spinx CEO Stewart Spinks.

Spinks, who will speak at the ceremony, said that his company makes continued learning programs available to all Spinx employees including a GED program, company career path training and development, higher learning through this retail management program, to scholarship and tuition reimbursement opportunities in pursuit of a degree.

"The Spinx Co.'s partnership with the Johnson College of Business will benefit not just Spinx, but also the communities that we serve in having a well-educated workforce," said Spinks.

The George Dean Johnson Jr. College of Business & Economics at the University of South Carolina Upstate delivers business education to a diverse student population. It is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business for its undergraduate business degree program. Through the College's five concentrations--accounting, economics/finance, general business administration, management and marketin--USC Upstate business graduates emerge with an understanding of today's global market.
