DUXBURY, Mass. -- VERC Enterprises, a leading convenience store and Mobil and Gulf gasoline operator with locations throughout eastern Massachusetts and New Hampshire, raised $825 for Homes for Our Troops during a weeklong promotional campaign.
Throughout Thanksgiving week, Nov. 24 through 30, VERC Enterprises donated $1 to Homes for Our Troops for each 5-hour Energy drink sold at its locations.
"This is our way of involving customers as we come to the assistance of a remarkable organization," said VERC Enterprises president Leo Vercollone of the nonprofit that builds specially adapted, mortgage-free homes for the most severely injured veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan.
VERC Enterprises is the region's leading, independent chain of convenience stores and gasoline stations, with locations throughout Eastern Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The company began 37 years ago with a single car wash in Marshfield, Mass., in a business founded by Eugene Vercollone. Today two of Vercollone's sons operate the company, with Leo as president and Paul as vice president. The firm has more than 230 employees and is a leader in hiring those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
