Detroit 7-Eleven Stores Introduce Faygo Redpop Slurpee

And Florida 7-Elevens bring AriZona Mucho Mango to Big Gulp fountain

DETROIT –7-Eleven Inc. and Faygo Beverages Inc. have announced an exclusive partnership to release the Faygo Redpop Slurpee drink. Redpop Slurpee beverages are now available at more than 300 7-Eleven convenience stores across Michigan and Ohio.

"7-Eleven has had a strong presence in Michigan for over four decades," Al Chittaro, executive vice president of Faygo Beverages, said.

According to 7-Eleven, its stores in the greater Detroit area sell more Slurpee beverages than any other 7-Eleven market in the United States.

"We want to bring our customers the local products they love and grew up with," said Nancy Smith, 7-Eleven senior vice president of fresh foods and proprietary beverages. "Redpop is a longstanding hometown favorite. We have found that our customers love having their childhood-favorite sodas available as a Slurpee drink."

Redpop was among the original soda flavors concocted more than 100 years ago by Detroit-based Faygo Beverages, now celebrating its 108th anniversary, then known as Feigenson Brothers Bottling Works. Trained as bakers, Ben and Perry Feigenson applied their skill with frosting flavors to sweeten bottled soda water. They delivered their freshly made sodas to local residents from a horse-drawn carriage on the streets of Detroit. The brothers are often credited with coining the term "pop" as a synonym for "soda," based on the sound their bottles made when opened.

The company shortened its name to "Faygo" because the original name was too long to print on bottles.

Separately, 7-Eleven Inc. has introduced AriZona Mucho Mango to its Big Gulp fountain soft drink offerings in more than 760 Florida 7-Eleven convenience stores.

This is the first geographic area in the country that now has Mucho Mango available at a fountain machine.

AriZona's ready-to-drink Mucho Mango is one of the top-selling juice brands in 7-Eleven stores nationwide, making it a natural choice for consideration as a fountain drink.

The Mucho Mango flavor in fountain-beverage form is only available at 7-Eleven, which is a leader in adding non-carbonated varieties for its customers.

AriZona Beverages, founded in Brooklyn, N.Y. in 1992, makes AriZona Ice Tea.

7-Eleven Inc. is the premier name and largest chain in the convenience retailing industry. Based in Dallas, it operates, franchises or licenses approximately 10,500 7-Eleven stores in North America. Globally, there are more than 55,100 7-Eleven stores in 16 countries. During 2013, 7-Eleven stores generated total worldwide sales close to $84.5 billion.
