Technomic, IRI Partner for R2R Insights

New tool analyzes restaurant, retail purchasing

CHICAGO -- Technomic Inc., a leading foodservice industry research and consulting firm, and Information Resources Inc. (IRI), a leader in innovative solutions and services for consumer, retail and over-the-counter healthcare companies, have joined forces to create Restaurant to Retail (R2R) Insights, which measures and analyzes the food and beverage purchases of nearly 40,000 individuals within 31,000 households at retail and what individuals in these same households are buying at major chain restaurants.

"R2R Insights opens the door to a full understanding of the patterns and correlation of what consumers buy at and away from home," said Bob Goldin, executive vice president at Chicago-based Technomic. "Understanding cross-channel behavior can drive new growth strategies for industry participants."

Technomic's perspective on the foodservice industry, combined with IRI's retail credentials, deliver the first complete look at actual retail purchase information crossed with restaurant visitation/purchase information.

R2R Insights' first wave of data will be available Nov. 2013.

"The partnership we've created with Technomic reveals the full spectrum of consumer food purchasing habits," said Bob Tomei, president of consumer and shopper marketing at IRI, also based in Chicago. "Companies will be able to leverage the expertise we collectively provide and identify the best opportunities within the overall food industry. We're looking at the consumer in a different way, and it's exciting."
