ExxonMobil strategizes with dealers, distributors

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Exxon Mobil Corp. will meet with its distributors and dealers in New Orleans this week to discuss the status of the business and its vision for the Exxon and Mobil brands for 2005 and beyond, the company said.

Dealers and distributors associated with most of ExxonMobil's 12,000 U.S. retail stations are expected to attend the meetings, workshops and trade show. The retail gasoline business continues to be intensively competitive, said Mark Shores, U.S. retail sales director for ExxonMobil Fuels Marketing. Our business plans are focused [image-nocss] on offering initiatives for dealers and distributors that move us forward as a strong competitor.

He added, Since the market is highly competitive, we are focused on developing total site profitability for increased resiliency. For the Exxon and Mobil brands, this is enhanced by our On the Run convenience stores, focused programs such as Bengal Traders coffee, and car wash opportunities; and it's supported by our Speedpass electronic payment and strong ExxonMobil Credit Card portfolio.

During the four-day meeting, attendees will hear marketing updates and plans for customer-focused delivery of products and services, such as:

On the Run

One of the primary ways in which ExxonMobil plans to deliver on its commitment to delivery fast, fresh and friendly to its customers is through its On the Run convenience stores. There are now more than 660 On the Run sites in the United States. As reported in CSP Daily News, 45 distributors have signed on as Regional Franchise Developers (RFDs) for On the Run and 115 distributor-served sites are open and operating, with plans to double that number in 2005.

To further strengthen and expand the On the Run brand, we are currently market testing a new adaptation of On the Run with our dealer network, a version that can be operated in existing smaller stores, said Shores.

Speedpass

This summer, ExxonMobil will offer customers, where permitted by law, a significant incentive to signup and continue to use their Speedpass radio frequency identification (RFID) payment device through a five-cent-off-per-gallon promotion and inside reward with qualifying purchase. Additionally, we are now testing onsite, instant enrollment technology that will give retailers an even stronger tool in signing up loyal Speedpass customers, said Shores.

ExxonMobil has more than six million active Speedpass devices in the United States, it said. Speedpass is accepted at more than 8,900 Exxon and Mobil locations in the United States.

ExxonMobil Credit Cards

GE Consumer Finance is currently reissuing seven million ExxonMobil-branded credit cards to cardholders. The new card has a number of additional consumer protections, including zero-dollar credit card fraud liability if the card is lost or stolen. ExxonMobil's credit card program leads the petroleum industry in both total dollars charged and dollars charged per account, ExxonMobil said.

Our ExxonMobil consumer credit card continues to bring customer loyalty to our retailers and benefits to our customers, said Shores. We value our credit card customers as an important part of our customer base.

New Mobil High Endurance Motor Oils

In February, ExxonMobil announced the introduction of Mobil High Endurance Motor Oils. These new motor oils respond the longer oil change intervals now being recommended by many car manufacturers, and the longer distances now being driven by consumers.

Community Involvement

ExxonMobil has a long history of supporting the communities where it operates, especially in the area of education. The ExxonMobil Educational Alliance program provides opportunities for retailers to be directly involved in building community goodwill in the neighbors near their stations. Since 2000, ExxonMobil has made 19,000 donations totaling $9.5 million to local schools on behalf of its retailers, said the company.

Since 2001, ExxonMobil have supported Upromisethe largest nongovernmental service helping families save for collegewith contributions to Upromise members' accounts for each gallon of gasoline purchased at an Exxon or Mobil station. Those contributions now exceed $14 million dollars, it said. This summer we will announce a new and significant reward opportunity for our customers who are Upromise members, added Shores.
