KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Pilot Travel Centers LLC has signed a contract to purchase Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) dispensing systems from manufacturer SPATCO DEF Corp. Equipment has already been installed in Charlotte, N.C., and Portland, Tenn., with additional locations scheduled for installation over the next several months.
The federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has mandated that all Class 1 to Class 8 diesel vehicles manufactured after January 1, 2010, must be equipped with technology to substantially reduce NOx emissions.
By injecting DEF, a mixture of 32.5% [image-nocss] urea and 67.5% water, into the exhaust of vehicles using Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology, harmful NOx emissions are reduced to almost zero. In addition to reduced emissions, this technology has also been proven to increase fuel economy by between 4% to 6%.
The SPATCO DEF product line provides DEF dispensing systems for fleets of all sizes, construction and agriculture equipment, as well as retail truckstops. SPATCO DEF is headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., with a nationwide distributor network.
Knoxville, Tenn.-based Pilot Travel Centers caters to the professional driver and traveling motorist in 41 states with more than 300 retail interstate properties.
