Maverik Making Mobile Move Through Wayne, Isis

Dispenser maker, mobile wallet enabling retailer to accept cellphone payment at pump

SALT LAKE CITY -- Mobile-wallet provider Isis and pump manufacturer Wayne are working to retrofit existing dispensers and supply new ones to accept cellphone payment at 55 stores in the Maverik convenience store chain.

Wayne is working with Isis, a joint venture created by phone carriers AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA Inc. and Verizon Wireless, to introduce mobile payments at the pump for the Salt Lake City-based retailer.

With Isis support integrated into the Wayne TAP NFC/Contactless reader and used with the Wayne iX Pay secure payment solution, Maverik customers can tap their Isis-enabled smartphones to make a payment. As Maverik's relationship with Wayne and Isis progresses, its pay-at-the-pump customers soon will be able to automatically apply loyalty rewards for such things as fuel discounts, free food and beverages and various coupons for store merchandise.

"Isis is … providing new payment opportunities for our customers and laying the groundwork for future loyalty program enhancements," said Shon Call, executive director of store technology at the 250-store Maverik chain. "Wayne is a highly innovative dispenser provider with the technological capability to support our mobile payment needs. Together, they provide the backbone of an exciting new technology that we believe has great potential to enhance the customer experience at the pump."

"Maverik is an iconic brand and we are excited to be working together to transform how consumers pay at the pump," said Jim Stapleton, chief sales officer for Isis, based in New York. "Our work with Maverik and Wayne demonstrates how innovative brands can come together to transform the consumer experience within unique merchant environments and bring real value to both consumers and merchants."

Wayne will supply new Wayne Ovation fuel dispensers equipped with the TAP NFC/Contactless reader for several of Maverik's sites using Isis SmartTap technology. Secure, flexible and adaptable to future needs, the iX Pay solution offers EMV (Europay MasterCard Visa) data security options and 3.0 compliance to payment card industry (PCI) standards, the highest level of standards for pay-at-the-pump financial data security in the industry. Isis SmartTap capabilities are available using the TAP NFC/Contactless reader on the Wayne Helix, Ovation, and Vista fuel dispensers.

"Maverik has cultivated a dynamic brand through a strong commitment to customer experience," said Tim Weston, senior payment solutions product manager, Wayne, based in Austin, Texas. "We're pleased to be part of a mobile technology ecosystem through which Maverik can continue to deliver industry-leading innovations and remain ahead of the curve with new technologies."

Wayne is a GE business and provides design, manufacturing and servicing of forecourt fueling solutions, inclusive of dispensers, payment platforms, control systems and related technology.
