Belly Up to the Rack

AGE Refining begins blending B20 for Southwest Texas markets

SAN ANTONIO -- AGE Refining Inc. has launched its B20 biodiesel fuel, a 20% mixture of biodiesel and 80% diesel fuel that meets EPAct (Energy Policy Act) compliance.

The product will be a blend of two premium productssulfur-free, soybean-based and renewable biodiesel, provided by Gulf Hydrocarbon Inc., and AGE's premium diesel. B20 is competitively priced with current market premium diesel and will meet distributor's increased demand for biodiesel since the Volumetric Ethanol Excise Tax Credit recently approved for use of biodiesel. In addition, Texas [image-nocss] has reduced its state fuel excise tax from 20 cents/gallon to 16 cents/gallon to encourage use of B20 biodiesel fuel.

AGE's introduction of B20 is the first time in Texas that this environmentally friendly fuel will be available at the refinery rack, the company said. Typically distributors have had to load fleet fuel tanks with 2,500 to 7,500 gallons and transport it to wholesale petroleum distributors across the state. Now jobbers can purchase B20 straight from AGE's rack at its San Antonio refinery, reducing transportation costs and increasing productivity.

The B20 biodiesel fuel will be available from petroleum distributors throughout the South Texas area including Dixie Oil Co., San Antonio; Tetco Inc., San Antonio; Johnson Oil Co., Gonzales; and World Fuel Services Inc., Houston.

We are committed to providing a competitively priced, environmentally friendly biodiesel that is convenient and easy to transport, said Glen Gonzalez, executive vice president of AGE Refining Inc.

AGE Refining is an independently owned refinery operating in San Antonio. Since 1992, AGE has been producing jet fuel, diesel and specialty solvents for customers such as the federal government, San Antonio's public transportation system, large local truck fleets and commercial airlines.

Houston-based Gulf Hydrocarbon Inc. provides services, products and strategies for the biodiesel market, said Jess Hewitt, president. It offers biodiesel production, biodiesel blending, plant operation, tolling, marketing, hedging, consulting and biodiesel plant development and financing. It is a member of the National Biodiesel Board.
