E15 Debuts at RaceTrac

Florida sites first of more than 120 to offer ethanol blend

ATLANTA -- RaceTrac is officially in the E15 business.

This week, RaceTrac opened the first of more than 120 planned locations that will sell E15. The 15% ethanol blend debuted at four stores in central and southwest Florida. RaceTrac plans to introduce E15, branded as “Unleaded E15,” to more than one-quarter of its sites in Florida, Georgia, Louisiana and Texas in the next three years.

In a statement, Max McBrayer, chief supply officer for RaceTrac, said the decision to add E15 was about giving customers more options.

“Our mission is to make lives simpler and more enjoyable and offering a variety of fuel options to our guests is one way we deliver on that mission,” said McBrayer. “Like other alternative fuels we sell such as E85, ethanol-free gas and B20 biodiesel, the addition of E15 allows us to continue to offer the competitive fuel pricing we are known for, as well as provide the alternative fuel options that are becoming an increasing part of our industry’s landscape.”

RaceTrac offers alternative fuels at about 140 sites. E85, the 85% ethanol blend, is currently available at 70 stores, while ethanol-free E0 is sold at 65. By adding E15, RaceTrac joins others such as Gate Petroleum, Thorntons, Kum & Go, Murphy USA, MAPCO, Sheetz, Family Express, Minnoco and Protec.

The four Florida RaceTrac locations now offering E15 are:

  • 2001 Saxon Blvd. in Deltona
  • 4285 U.S. Highway 98 South in Lakeland
  • 4551 S. Cleveland Ave. in Ft. Myers
  • 8485 David Blvd. in Naples

RaceTrac plans to roll out E15 to 20 sites by the end of 2016. The Environmental Protection Agency has approved E15 for use in vehicle models 2001 and newer. The fuel blend offers a higher octane than E10, the 10% ethanol blend, and is often priced a few cents cheaper.

Based in Atlanta, family-owned RaceTrac operates more than 400 convenience stores in Georgia, Florida, Louisiana and Texas.
