Fire Destroys Nice N' Easy Location

Union Springs store a total loss

UNION SPRINGS, N.Y. -- A Nice N' Easy Grocery Shoppes location in Union Springs, N.Y., was destroyed in a fire shortly after midnight on Monday.

It happened shortly after we closed, Fran Duskiewicz, Nice N' Easy's senior executive vice president, told CSP Daily News. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No one was injured and the fire was kept away from the fuel. The store is a total loss.

According to a News 10 Now-TV report, crews were able to prevent the fire from spreading to the gasoline pumps and propane tank. Duskiewicz added, This is a first for us, so I'm sure we'll spend a good chunk of the day figuring out what we need to do next. But as you've all seen in the way we've dealt with the tough circumstances of the past week or so [due to the snow that has hit much of Central New York] that this will not get us down.

And he quipped, This means we've had floods (our office flooded because of a burst water pipe), fire and 10 feet of snow in a week. All that's missing now are locusts and showers of frogs.

Canastota, N.Y.-based Nice N' Easy is a major convenience store chain operating more than 80 stores throughout the state of New York.
