SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonio motorists could have trouble finding fuel at some of Valero Energy Corp.'s local gas stations due to an area-wide shortage of gasoline, reported the San Antonio Business Journal.
The shortage, which began earlier this week, was expected to continue for a couple of days, Valero spokesperson Mary Rose Brown told the newspaper.
Brown said Houston-based Mission Petroleum Carriers Inc., which delivers fuel for Valero, has had a shortage of drivers. And as a result, the Valero stores have not been able to [image-nocss] get their regular deliveries.
The situation is already improving as several of [Mission's] trucks are back in service and our other carriers are delivering more loads of fuel to make up for the short-fall, she said Wednesday. But, it will likely take a couple of days to get all of our stores back on track.
To ease the inconvenience, Brown added, Valero will downgrade prices in certain cases. If we run out of regular gasoline but have midgrade, we will sell the midgrade fuel for the regular price, she told the paper. If we run out of midgrade but have premium, we will sell the premium for the midgrade price.
Valero owns and operates 18 refineries throughout the United States, Canada and the Caribbean with a combined throughput capacity of 3.3 million barrels a day. It also has a convenience store network of more than 4,700 Valero, Diamond Shamrock, Shamrock, Ultramar and Beacon stores.
