ExxonMobil teams up with U.S. Hispanic group for recruitment

PHILADELPHIA -- The U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) and Exxon Mobil Corp. have begun an initiative to help identify and attract minority entrepreneurs who want to become Exxon and Mobil retailers.

"A key objective of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is to expand business opportunities and economic empowerment for our members," said Michael L. Barrera, president and CEO of the USHCC. "This new collaborative effort meets that objective through a focused commitment to assist our growing [image-nocss] Hispanic business community in pursuing entrepreneurial opportunities with ExxonMobil. We are very pleased with the level of commitment ExxonMobil is making to this effort."

Mark Shores, director of retail sales for Fairfax, Va.-based ExxonMobil Fuels Marketing, added, "We see this new effort with the [USHCC] as a great opportunity to help create awareness and interest in retail business opportunities at ExxonMobil among minority candidates. With the help of the [USHCC], we seek qualified minority candidates who want to be involved in all aspects of gasoline and convenience store retail marketing, from operating a single retail outlet, to investing and becoming the principal operator of a multiple-location distributorship. We are looking for entrepreneurs who want to grow with ExxonMobil."

Central to the initiative is a plan for the chamber to serve as a resource for Houston-based ExxonMobil in searching out and screening qualified candidates nationwide.

Established in 1979, the USHCC represents the interests of more than two million Hispanic-owned businesses in the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico, which earn more than $350 billion annually. It serves as the umbrella organization for more than 200 local Hispanic chambers nationwide and in Mexico, and it actively promotes the economic growth and development of Hispanic entrepreneurs.

There are approximately 13,000 Exxon- and Mobil-branded gas stations in the United States, as well as seven refineries.
