Details Emerge on Wilson Farms' Distribution Deal

McLane to help retailer deliver farm fresh products statewide

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- As reported in CSP Daily News in late September, Wilson Farms Inc. has selected McLane Co. Inc. as its wholesale distributor. Under the agreement, McLane's Northeast division, centrally located in Baldwinsville, N.Y., will distribute grocery products and supplies to the 198 Wilson Farms and Sugar Creek convenience store and gas locations across New York.

Wilson Farms is known for our strong commitment to serving the neighborhood community, said Paul Nanula, president and CEO of Wilson Farms Inc. As our retail outlets continue to expand [image-nocss] across New York, we are looking for ways to improve efficiency and serve our local customers better. We selected McLane based on expertise and experience in supplying convenience stores and their focus on maintaining an efficient supply chain.

During an extensive Request for Proposals (RFP) process, Wilson Farms evaluated numerous companies and determined that McLane is the ideal wholesaler to help maximize Wilson Farms' business potential and realize its long-term vision. The deciding factors included an ability to develop a streamlined and efficient long-term distribution process for all of its Upstate New York locations and the capability to meet Wilson Farms' business and retail needs, the company said.

In June 2005, Williamsville, N.Y.-based Wilson Farms Inc. purchased the convenience stores and gas stations from Tops Markets LLC, a division of Ahold USA. Tops Markets owned Wilson Farms from 1969 until 2005, when they sold the c-store chain as part of a strategy to focus exclusively on traditional supermarkets.

Wilson Farms currently operates 198 Wilson Farms Neighborhood Food Stores and Sugar Creek c-store locations across New York. Today, the company offers farm-fresh produce, convenient meal solutions, freshly made sandwiches, gourmet coffee, a variety of beverages and an extensive line of grocery, frozen, and dairy products.

McLane provides distribution services throughout the United States, delivering food and nonfood products to more than 50,000 customer locations, including convenience stores, drug stores, mass merchandisers, quick-service restaurants and movie theaters. Headquartered in Temple, Texas, the company operates 19 grocery distribution divisions and 18 foodservice distribution centers as well as an industry specific-software company. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Inc.
