C-Store Community Service Roundup: Awards, Warmth & Donations Aplenty

Initiatives by CST, Enmarket, NOCO, Parker’s, Ricker’s, Stewart’s, Turkey Hill, more

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill. -- The Muscular Dystrophy Association, American Diabetes Association and Pennsylvania Veterans Foundation were among the beneficiaries of recent convenience-store retailer campaigns.

Here are some recent examples, as well as other ways retailers showed community support:

  • CST Brands Inc. San Antonio-based CST Brands’ Corner Store Colorado division received the Developmental Disabilities Resource Center (DDRC) Partner of the Year award. This award recognizes groups or individuals who have assisted the nonprofit organization in providing services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.
  • Enmarket. The Savannah, Ga.-based chain donated $10,000 to four area nonprofit organizations during its 2015 Encourage Health Educational Series. Receiving $2,000 grants were the Childhood Obesity Prevention and Education group, GA Bikes!, the Effingham County Navigator Team and the Forsyth Farmer’s Market. Each organization was eligible to win a grand prize, which the Childhood Obesity Prevention & Education won, receiving another $2,000.
  • Lykins Energy Solutions. Through Valentine’s Day, Lykins Energy Solutions will provide warmth at the Fountain Square ice rink in Cincinnati. The Clermont County, Ohio-based company is powering a warming tent and propane heater.
  • McDonald Oil Co. LaGrange, Ga.-based McDonald Oil Co./Summit Stores raised more than $31,000 for Muscular Dystrophy Association families during its 10th annual Golf Classic. The money raised will benefit children and adults affected by muscle disease.
  • NOCO Energy Corp. NOCO, Tonawanda, N.Y., customers and employees raised $25,015 in August and September to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Western and Central New York Chapter. Funds raised are spent locally on blood cancer research and patient aid and services.
  • Parker’s. The Savannah, Ga.-based company raised $83,597 during its Fueling the Community Charity Golf Tournament in October. Proceeds will benefit Georgia and South Carolina communities in areas where Parker’s operates convenience stores.
  • Ricker’s. Ricker’s Convenience Stores, Anderson, Ind., raised $15,000 for the American Diabetes Association to benefit 750,000 Hoosiers living with diabetes.
  • Stewart’s Shops. The Saratoga Springs, N.Y.-based company is collecting donations for its Holiday Match program. Through Christmas Day, Stewart’s Shops will have jugs at all of its locations for donations, which the company will match. Funds will be given to local children’s charities. Last year, Stewart’s customers donated more than $770,000, which was doubled to more than $1.5 million with Stewart’s match.
  • Turkey Hill. Turkey Hill Minit Markets donated $67,000 to the Pennsylvania Veterans Foundation. The donation includes funds raised during the Lancaster County, Pa.-based company’s Charity Golf Outing in August as well as proceeds from T-shirt sales during the Turkey Hill/I-105 Fallfest in October.
  • Western Refining Inc.El Paso, Texas-based Western Refining raised $668,811 for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital during its “Monster” Halloween promotion and $179,000 during its April golf tournament.
