SOPUS Sells Shells by the Seashore

Transitions 84 Ore. sites to PacWest Energy/Jacksons Food Stores JV

HOUSTON -- Shell Oil Products US (SOPUS) said that it has transitioned ownership or supply of 84 branded sites in Oregon to PacWest Energy LLC, a joint venture formed between Shell and Shell-branded wholesaler Jacksons Food Stores Inc. The sites will continue to sell Shell-branded gasoline, although PacWest will rebrand the convenience stores at 62 of these locations to the Jacksons brand. According to a confidentiality agreement between the parties, the purchase price was not disclosed.

As reported yesterday in a CSP Daily News Flash, this divestment is in line with Shell's publicly stated [image-nocss] intent to transition retail assets to joint venture and wholesale operations, "in order to move toward its vision of becoming the best fuels retailer in the world," it said.

"We look forward to meeting the needs of the residents of Portland, and to providing them with great service and quality Shell gasoline," said John Jackson, president, Jacksons Food Stores Inc., Meridian, Idaho. "We anticipate the combined power of the Shell and Jacksons brands will serve to attract new customers throughout the region."

Jacksons Food Stores was founded in 1975 as a single service station. Today, Jacksons has grown into a multi-state chain of more than 100 convenience stores, car washes and 10 quick-serve restaurants (QSRs) in four western states—Idaho, Oregon, Utah and Nevada.

"With a strong, well-known retail brand and a reputation for excellent customer service, Jacksons Food Stores will help to strengthen the Shell retail network in the Pacific Northwest," said Bill Spurgeon, west region general manager for Shell Oil Products US, Houston. "Transitioning these sites will allow us to focus on delivering the quality fuels motorists expect from Shell."

Shell Oil Products US, a subsidiary of Shell Oil Co. is a refiner and marketer of fuels with a network of approximately 6,100 gas stations in the western United States.
