Thorntons Restructures Senior Leadership

CEO takes on additional title of president with departure

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- As part of a corporate restructuring of senior leadership coinciding with the convenience-store retailer’s new fiscal year, Tony Harris, who had been president since mid-2014, has left Thorntons Inc.

Effective immediately, Matt Thornton will take on the duties of president while continuing in his role as chief executive officer.

This new structure will continue to support Thorntons' business goals and enable the team to drive progress for the organization, the company said.

“I am confident that these organizational changes will enable us to continue as a growth company and achieve our long-term plan,” Matt Thornton told CSP Daily News. “On behalf of the senior leadership team, I want to recognize all of Tony’s great work and wish him the very best in his next chapter.”

Harris became the company's president in June 2014. He was chief operating officer from 2007 through 2011. He joined Thorntons in 2000 and also held the titles vice president of operations and facility services, vice president of information technology and director of information technology for the Louisville, Ky.-based company.

With annual revenues of $2.8 billion, Thorntons operates more than 180 convenience stores in six states: Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Tennessee and Florida.
