Wawa Initiates Massive Hiring Surge

C-store chain to fill thousands of new jobs in three months across entire retail network

WAWA, Pa. --Wawa Inc. has announced plans to hire more than 5,000 new associates during the next three months, with all of its more than 700 convenience stores across its six-state operating area looking to add new talent.

The initiative comes on the heels of Forbes magazine ranking Wawa among America's best employers for 2016.

The companywide hiring campaign to fill customer-service-level positions will span the spring season. It is part of Wawa's overall commitment to provide job opportunities that can lead to fulfilling careers to community members across the company's operating area.

"At Wawa, we exist to fulfill lives every day and part of this commitment means providing fulfilling job opportunities that can lead to fulfilling careers for the more than 26,000 Wawa associates who are part of our team," said Dave Filano, manager of talent acquisition at Wawa.

"As we continue to expand and grow, we're excited to fill these 5,000-plus positions with people who will quickly become part of the Wawa Way. We're specifically looking for individuals who want to join our team for the busy summer season and as well those who might be interested in the start of a fulfilling career at Wawa," he said.

As part of the hiring campaign, every Wawa store will have job opportunities, and in addition, select Wawa stores will also host open houses throughout March and April where potential associates can receive a brief, first interview, learn more about Wawa's culture, explore career opportunities and discover the role Wawa associates play in their communities.

More than 100 Wawa convenience stores will hold the open houses. Stores hosting the events will post signs announcing the dates and times.

The company currently employs approximately 26,000 associates, it said.

Wawa associates hired in these full-time and part-time positions will receive competitive salaries and health benefits, as well as flexible schedules and tuition reimbursement opportunities.

In addition, through Wawa's employee stock ownership plan (ESOP), associates share directly in the growth of Wawa. The company is 41% owned by associates through the ESOP. Store-level associates and store management own nearly half the ESOP. With more than 10,000 participants, Wawa's ESOP ranks as one of the top 10 largest ESOPs in the country, said the company.

A career with Wawa includes significant advancement and growth opportunities, with 60% of all management in the company rising from associate positions, it said.

Wawa, a chain of more than 700 convenience stores located in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Florida, is based in Wawa, Pa.
