Hackney Buys Two Jiffy 7 Till 11 C-Stores

Will rebrand the Dayton, Tenn., locations to its own Aztex Food & Fuel flag

DAYTON, Tenn. -- A pair of Jiffy 7 Till 11 c-stores in Dayton, Tenn., have been sold to major eastern convenience store and grocery distributor H.T. Hackney Co., reported The Chattanooga Times-Free Press.

The company will rebrand the Jiffy stores to operate as Aztex Food & Fuel Centers under its Hackney Petroleum Inc. subsidiary, which has c-stores and gas stations in Tennessee and North Carolina. Hackney will "gradually" expand the stores' foodservice offering.

Hackney chairman and CEO Bill Sansom said the Knoxville, Tenn., company was not looking for gas stations to buy in Dayton, but that Bill and Tony Robinson--founders and owners of the Jiffy 7 Till 11 franchise--contacted Hackney, saying they were ready to sell their Dayton stores and prepare for retirement.

"We've known them for a long time," Sansom told the newspaper. "They kind of got to talking to some of our people."

Hackney has purchased other area stores from the Robinson brothers, whose Robinson Enterprises Inc. is based in Athens, Tenn., said the report. Other Hackney-acquired stores in the area will keep the Jiffy name, and many will carry BP fuel, it added.

Hackney is the 109th largest privately held company in the United States., according to the paper, citing Forbes, with $3.95 billion in 2013 revenue. Hackney also owns companies that make and sell their own products, including Uncle Ray's, Holland House Furniture and Natural Springs Water Group. Hackney also recently purchased Ooltewah, Tenn.-based Great American Deli.

"We do a lot of business in that area," said Sansom.
