Quik Mart Acquires 2 Rick’s Barbecue & Country Stores

Owners selling c-stores to focus on developing restaurants, wholesale products

LAWRENCEBURG, Tenn. — South Tennessee Oil Co. Inc., doing business as Quik Mart Convenience Stores, has acquired two Rick’s Barbecue & Country Store locations offering fuel from Rick’s Barbecue Inc.

The parties did not disclose the terms of the sale.

The two stores are located in Ethridge and Leoma, Tenn. They are large convenience stores (3,400 and 4,000 square feet, respectively) with separate gasoline and diesel islands, walk-in coolers, extensive foodservice operations and drive-thru windows.

Rick and Karen Lanning, the owners of Rick’s Barbecue, will continue to own, operate and develop new Rick’s Barbecue fast-casual restaurants in Tennessee and Alabama and market wholesale barbecue, sauces and food products from their commissary in Leoma, they said.

The company has seven Rick’s Barbecue restaurants: two in Tennessee, in Lawrenceburg and Loretto, and five in Alabama, one in Madison and two each in Muscle Shoals and Florence.

“We can’t thank you enough for your love and support for 21 years at the two locations,” the Lannings said in a Facebook post. “With this year being our 40th year in business at Rick’s Barbecue, we are desiring to focus on further expansion of our restaurant locations and our wholesale product lines. We can’t wait to see what the future has in store for our family-owned and -operated business.”

Lawrenceburg, Tenn.-based South Tennessee Oil Co. Inc., affiliated through common ownership with Edwards Oil Co. of Lawrenceburg Inc., owns and operates 40 Shell-branded convenience stores in Tennessee and Alabama.
