Murphy USA is primarily focused on new-to-industry store growth—but it made a small acquisition last quarter, picking up four stores in the Denver area.

The El Dorado, Arkansas-based convenience-store chain announced its third-quarter 2025 earnings on Wednesday and held a call on the results Thursday morning. On Wednesday it also announced that current COO Mindy West was named president of the company, effective immediately, and would succeed Andrew Clyde as president and CEO starting Jan. 1.

“We remain steadfastly committed to new store growth primarily through our acceleration of our new industry store program to 50 plus stores and opportunistic, supplementing organic growth with small-scale M&A opportunities as they arrive,” West said on Thursday’s call.

During the third quarter of 2025, Murphy USA opened eight new to industry (NTI) stores and 11 raze and rebuilds. As of Sept. 30, that brings its total store count to 1,620 Murphy USA/Express stores and 152 QuickChek stores, the company reported.

In the fourth quarter of 2025 and first quarter of 2026 combined, Murphy USA expects to open roughly 40 new stores, all of which are currently under construction, interim CFO Donald R. Smith Jr. said on Thursday’s call.

“This figure includes a small package of four stores we purchased in the Denver market that should be open by year end, an example of an opportunistic, small-scale real estate play in an attractive market where we want a bigger presence,” Smith said. “This gives us line of sight to at least 45 new store openings in 2025 as we continue to grow the new store pipeline, positioning us for 50-plus stores in 2026 and beyond.”

Of those four Colorado stores, two are located in Aurora and opened this week, Murphy USA Vice President and Head of Marketing Alejandra Barron told CSP onFriday. Two more, one in Thornton and one in Englewood, will open in November as Murphy USAs.

Murphy USA did not disclose further details on the deal.
