Utz to Acquire 2 Distributors

Clem and J&D Snacks have a combined 125 direct-store-delivery routes

HANOVER, Pa. —Utz Brands Inc. will acquire the assets of Clem Snacks Inc. and J&D Snacks Inc., two existing third-party direct-store-delivery (DSD) distributors of Utz’s products. The deal is expected to close during the first quarter of 2022.

Clem Snacks, based in Brooklyn, N.Y., is a family-owned and operated distributor and has about 100 DSD routes in New York City and Long Island, N.Y. J&D Snacks, based in the Bronx, N.Y., has about 25 DSD routes.

“We are excited to build on the solid foundation and stellar reputation that the Clem and J&D teams have built,” said Steve Liantonio, senior vice president, national sales operations for Utz. “These two key distribution partners have been representing and distributing Utz’s brands in the five boroughs of New York City and Long Island, N.Y., over the last 25 years, and we look forward to working closely with our independent operator network to expand and grow our expansive portfolio of brands in this vibrant and diverse market.”

According to Utz, the new routes will enable the company to increase investments across the New York City region and provide enhanced retailer support with increased distribution facilities and sales management, higher service velocity and an expanded route distribution system.

“The opportunity for growth and expansion remains robust, and we are poised to drive it to new heights,” said Liantonio.
